Seasons On A Mac

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but I've been working quite a lot. Not only that, but the fact the Seasons turned out to be an epic failure for Mac users has almost turned me off playing completely. I was so excited about Seasons (and I still am) and I actually got it the day it was released. I only got to check out the new stuff and what not before reports of crashing, freezing and a slew of other issues started occurring on the Mac boards. Obviously a lot of Windows Simmers have issues as well, but as a Mac Simmer you have to deal with a whole set of issues related to that crappy wrapper Cider. I can only assume by EA's total silence on the matter that they realize what a poor decision it was to use Cider. 

Now, my game has been running fine for the most part, but in the last few months not so much - since the 1.38/1.39 patch I believe. That's when that effing "exception raised error" started popping up more frequently, as well as freezing or just crashing to desktop while saving. I play offline with nothing else running in the background, still these things keep happening. Bloody Cider. Build mode (I have a small island made for building where I build my lots) and CAS is working fine, so I am able to build and make Sims. All the issues are happening in live mode, at least for me. Which is why I haven't played my families in a while. Constantly saving and worrying about whether or not it will crash/freeze has just sucked all the fun out of playing for me.

Over in Creative Corner there is a thread asking for advice on how to get your inspiration back if you have builder's block. Gotta love the reply from HIGHTIMES809, one of the most notorious re-uploaders (he has been caught re-uploading other Simmers work several times) in the community:

I think what he meant to say was: Sometimes I like to browse the exchange and forums for houses made by others. It clears my head and I start thinking about what small changes I can make before re-uploading and claiming them as my own.

Oh, The Joys Of Being A Mac Simmer...

Howdy,

I'm one of the lucky ones as I haven't had many problems playing The Sims 3 on a Mac. The minor issues I've experienced are the same ones Windows users have as well - and most of them can be fixed with mods. So my game was working fine yesterday and today I just got a "the game process could not be started" error message. I have gotten that a few times before but the game has always started despite that message. But not today. So I restarted my Mac, that didn't help - still the same message and the game wouldn't start. I moved my Sims 3 folder to the desktop to see if it would start without anything installed. Nope, no go. I repaired the permissions and restarted - ugghh, still no go. So I think maybe my game is ready for a clean re-install, it's good to have a fresh start sometimes. While I've been sitting here waiting for my games to download from GameTreeMac I went to the Mac forums and Tech Discussions - and holy moly! This isn't just happening to me, it seems this error is happening to Mac users across the board - none of us have changed or updated anything since yesterday and we all get this error and can't start our games today. I first found this thread in the Mac disscusions and then this thread started by a Mac user in Tech Discussions. I refuse to believe this is a coincidence. And I bet you if a SimGuru, and that's a BIG if, addresses this they'll probably tell us to re-install. In which case I'll reply: I'm way ahead of you!

Update 1 Sept. 25: The issue has been resolved, and SimGuruBrent just confirmed that on the Mac Discussion thread.

Update 2 Sept. 29: And the error is back...*roll eyes*

Here we have a house I started on earlier this summer and when I only had the outside area left, I sort of abandoned it for a while. No reason really, I just never got around to finishing it until now. The exterior is based on a US East Coast summer house I saw in a magazine, the interior shots were few and not very good - lacking a proper floor plan. So that is all from my head. I hope you like it!

So here we have another EA make-over. Caspin mentioned earlier that her favorite place in Lucky Palms is up by the dried up lake beds. I guess you would call that the not so posh part of town. So I decided to check it out some more and that's when I came across the sad, dull little Highgate Hacienda and I immediately felt the urge to brighten up the place. And here is the result:

Atsumi And The Gang In Lucky Palms

Hello peeps,

I seem to take these unplanned breaks from playing, I am always doing something Sims related like building and making Sims, but I can go weeks and months without playing my families. I don't really know why that is, because I really do love playing. Well, now I have a huge update on Atsumi and the gang - in other words it's a pic spam. After seeing all the pics on the forums of Lucky Palms, I decided to get it myself - even though I'm not a fan of EA worlds. But it is very beautiful and runs really smoothly with no lag (so far) - knock on wood. So, I made a new house for them, well it's not that new - it's just a re-modeled version of my Bali Bungalow

So a new patch is out *shudders*. I was just over at the Mac forums and surprise, surprise: there are issues with the patch. Who didn't see that coming? Several are reporting this when trying to install the patch:

And the whole uninstall/reinstall dance every time a patch comes out is getting old as Axed84 said:

But of course if you contact EA CS that is exactly what they tell you to do. It seems to be their number one solution for everything:

"You locked your car keys in your car? No problem, just uninstall and reinstall your Sims 3 games and you should be on the road again in no time. Thanks for paying a butt load of money for our crappy products. Have a nice day!"

Will they ever get it right? Oh, sorry - forgot this is EA we're talking about here. My bad.

There is some good news for us Mac users though, there is finally a Mac version of the Upload Image Changer. Check it out HERE. I've been using the Windows version with Mono for quite some time, but this is so much easier.

Yeah, so I caved and bought Showtime the other day even though I swore I wouldn't. But I just really, really wanted some new stuff for my Sims. I wont be simporting and chatting in game though, not interested in that at all. So I will continue to play offline by myself like I always have. At any rate, I made this new venue, an arcade type of place with fun activities for the whole family.
